“The Reiki method is not only for curing illness, its true purpose is to correct the heart mind, keep the body fit and lead a happy life using the spiritual capabilities humans are endeavoured with since birth” ~ Dr Miakao Usui

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a healing tradition founded by Dr Miakao Usui in the early 20th century.  Reiki is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy (Rei meaning Universal and Ki meaning Life Energy).  It is used to activate the natural healing ability within the body and restore physical and emotional wellbeing.

How does Reiki work?
Reiki works on all levels of the clients being, addressing any physical symptoms or emotional issues present within the body.  By placing their hands on or near the client, the therapist channels the Reiki energy into the body.  This enhances the body’s natural healing process and removes blocked energy allowing Life Energy to flow freely and effectively.  By removing the blockages and allowing the energy to flow correctly through the body, physical symptoms subside, emotional issues are resolved and the client is left feeling grounded, relaxed and more positive, allowing them to experience a more enjoyable and fulfilling life.

Where does Reiki energy come from?
As the name suggests, Reiki energy is universally available to those who have been attuned to it by a Reiki master.  The therapist channels the energy through their physical body and out through their hands, into the client.  The therapist is not using their personal energy, they are tapping into Universal Energy or Life Force.

What should I expect from a treatment?
Reiki is a full body treatment that works on the entire body and all systems within it.  The patient remains fully clothed throughout the treatment, which is delivered on a couch or chair depending on the client.  The therapist may place their hands on, or slightly away from the body working from the head towards the feet.  The therapist follows a sequence of hand positions, balancing the energy throughout the entire body as they focus on each area.

What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
Most clients report a feeling of deep relaxation and calming of the mind, some may even fall asleep.  It is possible to experience different emotions, memories or see colours.  Physically you may feel warm, cold or tingling; which is all completely normal.  Some people may not feel anything; which is also normal.

Is Reiki a religion?
Although Reiki is spiritual in nature and is influenced by Buddhism, it is not a religion.  Practitioners do not need to change their religion or spiritual beliefs to be attuned to Reiki nor do you need to hold any specific beliefs to receive Reiki, it is available to everyone.

What can be treated with Reiki?
Reiki can be used to treat all types of illness and negative conditions ranging from depression & anxiety to cancer and heart disease, as well as reducing and sometimes even eliminating side effects from treatment or medication, like chemotherapy and post operative pain.  It can increase the rate of healing and reduce the length of time it takes to recover or remain in hospital.  Reiki is 99% effective and 100% safe.  Some people may experience complete healing however results are not guaranteed.  Reiki works in conjunction with all other forms of healing, including medical treatment and drugs.  It is recommended that the advice of a licenced healthcare practitioner be sort for all medical and psychological conditions.  A Reiki practitioner is not required to have any medical training.

Is it safe for pregnant women?
Reiki is completely safe for everyone to enjoy.  Many pregnant women have received Reiki pre-conception, during pregnancy and even during birth, promoting wellbeing and calm for both mother and baby.

Are there any side effects from Reiki?
Most clients report feeling calm and relaxed during a Reiki treatment and after however, on occasion, some people may experience a Herxheimer Reaction.  This is characterised by a temporary increase in the symptoms being treated, during the healing process.  This is completely normal and should subside within a couple of days.
